Visiting North Dakota

Winter in North Dakota is long - bundle up and come on up for some classic winter activities. Visitors to Bismarck and Mandan are minutes away from Huff Hills for North Dakota skiing and snowboarding. Or, take an adventure north to Minot on US-83 to enjoy North Dakota’s largest snowfall at Bottineau Winter Park. Located an hour and a half from Minot, just outside Bottineau in the Turtle Mountains, Bottineau Winter Park makes snow if its lacking. Grab your cross-country skis and head to Fargo’s golf courses for winter fun. Rose Creek Golf Course Trial, Prairie Golf Course Trail and Edgewood Golf Course Trail are groomed and free to use.

Winter in Fargo – you may think otherwise. The FARGODOME hosts the 2012 Boat and Marine Show January 27 through 29 followed by the Ted River Valley Home and Garden Show, February 24 through the 26. For hunters and fishermen, the 2012 Red River Valley Sportsmen Show is March 1 through 4. Come spring in North Dakota, you’ll be ready for everything.

The Fargo Theater hosts the 2012 Fargo Film Festival March 6 through 10. A must-attend event for film enthusiasts, FFF12 is the place to see cutting edge films across a variety of genres; hear from industry professionals; and learn about making films in North Dakota. The festival headquarters and most screenings are held at the beautiful Fargo Theatre on Broadway N in downtown Fargo.

West from Fargo on I-94 travelers find North Dakota’s capital city. Located in the center of the state, Bismarck is an ideal spot for sports fans this winter. Home of the Dakota Wizards of the NBA D-league, the Wizards make their home at the Bismarck Civic Center. Come out and join Dunkie and local fans cheering on the Wizards. Games run through the beginning of April.

Professional Rodeo comes to Bismarck on February 10 and 11. The Bismarck Civic Center fills with the excitement of the 2012 PRCA rodeo circuit. Bring the entire family for the thrill and excitement of bucking broncos, bull riding and steer wrestling. See which cowboy takes the best all-around crown.

Bismarck’s VFW Sports Center with two ice skating rinks, is the place to catch hockey action on the ice. The Bismarck Bobcats, the NAHL central division Junior A team, heats up the ice through March. The VFW Sports Center hosts public skating for aspiring hockey and figure skating athletes. There is plenty of winter fun in Bismarck.

Two hours north of Bismarck via US-83 is Minot and Minot State University. Just south of Minot International Airport, MSU is home to Ann Nicole Nelson Hall, a hub of culture for northern North Dakota. Enjoy the Minot Symphony Orchestra’s 2012 performances January 28, March 3 and April 21. In addition, Ann Nichole Nelson Hall hosts the International Artists Series and the Minot Chamber Chorale. It’s the season to enjoy an indoor performance in Minot.
