The Dakota Dinosaur Museum is a fabulous family museum in Dickinson. Stroll this 13,400 sq. ft. museum to view the collections of paleontological and geological specimens from around the world. The museum's 11 full-scale dinosaurs are quite impressive! Alice and Larry League began their collection in 1984, when they excavated Oligocene age mammals in the Dickinson area.
When the League's collection expanded to over several thousand pieces in 1987, they started fund-raising and development efforts to build the museum. The doors opened in 1994 and have educating visitors since then. The additional history exhibits and the Prairie Outpost Park, an historical village, round out a museum visit. Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is in a land of wide-open prairies, canyons with lush river bottoms and rugged North Dakota badlands. While driving along the 36-mile scenic loop in the park's South Unit, stop along the way to read the interpretive signs to learn more about the park. Roosevelt's Maltese Cross Cabin is also located in the South Unit, next to the Visitor Center. View Roosevelt's traveling trunk in the bedroom to see his initials inscribed in it.
The Elkhorn Ranch Unit is the section of the park where Roosevelt's "home ranch" buildings once existed. The on-site interpretive signs provide additional information about the ranch. Lace up your hiking boots to enjoy one of several hikes in the North Unit of the park. Enjoy a ranger-led tour, guided hike, guided horseback ride, campfire program or interpretive talk to learn more about this incredible area. After a day of exploring this beautiful park west of Dickinson, rest comfortably in a Best Western guest room.
